Subbituminous Coal of Activated Carbon Production As Fe (Iron) Metal Adsorbent In Coal Leachate Waste
Abstract
Activated carbon from sub-bituminous coal as a sorbent to adsorb heavy metals Fe contained in coal power plant leachate water waste, is expected to reduce the heavy metal content contained in the waste to the maximum. Utilization of sub-bituminous coal as an activated carbon adsorbent in the absorption of heavy metals in physically and chemically activated coal leachate wastewater, testing the performance of sub-bituminous coal as an adsorbent for the absorption of heavy metals Fe in coal PLTU leachate wastewater using Nitric Acid and Citric Acid activators. Nitric Acid and Citric Acid are able to activate sub-bituminous coal, this is indicated by an increase in the adsorption ability of sub-bituminous coal in absorbing solutions containing Fe (iron) metal. The results of the research on the absorption of heavy metal ion levels Fe (iron) in coal leachate waste water showed that optimal absorption occurred at 120 minutes using 0.5 M Nitric Acid activator, 80 and 120 minutes using 1 M Citric Acid activator which was able to reduce the concentration of Fe (iron) metal from 3.3 ppm to 0.07 ppm with a pollutant removal of 97.87%.
